The benefits of education and of useful knowledge, generally diffused through a community,
are essential to the preservation of a free government

Sam Houston

India being a democratic country, conscious citizens are an asset. Without this proper accountability in governance cannot be ensured and spirit of sovereignty upheld. The education system therefore has the primary responsibility in training young minds to become responsible citizens contributing to community awareness and nation building. Hence, electoral awareness initiatives have been taken up in the college for quite some time and has been formalized in 2021 through formation of an Electoral Literacy Club. The name of the ELC of our college was Jhargram Raj College (Girls’ Wing) Electoral Literacy Club i.e. JRCGWELC since 2021. With the change of college name on 27.12.2023, the club stands renamed as Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College Electoral Literacy Club (RIDGGCELC). The club is a functional body and representative in character consisting of both teachers and students. All students are members of the ELC. However, to coordinate activities in a systematic manner, students of departments have their nominated representatives along with a representative from the NSS unit.
