Sanskrit is one of the most ancient and near-perfect languages of the world. As a storehouse of knowledge, it is unsurpassed and one of the most invaluable treasures of the world. This language is a true symbol of the great Indian tradition and thought, which has exhibited full freedom in the search of the universal truth maintaining its own sanctity. This unique language contains not only good accounts of wisdom for the people of this country but it is also an unparalleled way to acquire proper knowledge and is thus significant for the people of the entire world. Sanskrit was considered as "Dev Bhasha", "Devavani" or the language of the Gods by ancient Indians. The word sanskrita, meaning "refined" or "purified", is the antonym of prakrita, meaning "natural," or "vulgar”. The corpus of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical and dharma texts. The vision of the Department of Sanskrit is to enable students to obtain the necessary skills to be successful in all aspects of their lives. Students will be able to effectively use the skills acquired to help identify and passionately pursue any objective in a practical manner. Not only will the students succeed in learning how to plan for and balance the interesting opportunities that life will present for them, but they will also inspire others, by their example, to want to learn how to do the same.
