Vision & Mission

The department of Zoology has passed through a progressive journey since its inception. This course offers an opportunity for a comprehensive study of animal bio-diversity, animal behavior, taxonomy, ecology, biochemistry, etc through classroom lectures, practical, interactive sessions, seminars and workshops. To make the subject more interesting and purposeful demonstrative methods are used. The department has a well-equipped laboratory and necessary infrastructure to meet the academic demands of the students.

Zoology department is being served by 1 full time maiden faculty member (Assistant Professor cum Head of the Department) Mr. Sanatan Murmu. As it is a newly founded department belonging to a newly formed govt. general degree college, it has no such notable history. Presently it is developing day by day. A number of 23 undergraduate students are pursuing their degree course. It has two huge classrooms and a nicely organized practical laboratory with biological specimen museum and latest scientific instrument facilities. Students can also enrich themselves by participating in different scientific events and seminars organize collaboratively with Botany and Physiology departments.

I am Minakshi Soren, student of Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College, semester VI, Zoology (general). We have been guided by Professor Sanatan Murmu with his adequate supervision from the first day of our admission. From my personal viewpoint my favorite place in the department is the laboratory which is well furnished with zoological specimens. The department is continuously growing with its latest features of study, introduced by the college authority. Consequently we are able to verify our knowledge by hands on practical. Yearly short visit to the different places, (eg. Junglemahal Zoological Park, Sericulture Industry etc) by our head of the department, made us more pleasant to understand the subject. As a zoology general student I deeply confess my gratitude to the authority of Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College.
