Welcome to Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College

Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College formerly Jhargram Raj College (Girls’ Wing) is the only Girls’ College in the newly formed district of Jhargram and it also happens to be the first Government College for girls in Junglemahal area of West Bengal. Due to its proximity to the Jhargram railway station and the central bus stand, the college is easily accessible to a large number of students interested in higher education. The college has started its journey on 14th July 2014 and since its inception the college has remained committed to educate and enlighten the womenfolk of this fringe area of the state. Socio-economic development of any place can only be ensured with the proper participation of women in higher education.

Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College was established in 2014 in the forested town of Jhargram, located in erstwhile West Midnapore, now declared an independent district. While a number of other colleges were inaugurated in the same year by Smt. Mamata Banerjee, the honorable CM of West Bengal as part of a massive educational upliftment drive of Junglemahal, Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College is the only college which serves to cater to the educational needs of women. This unique identity of the college as a safe haven for women who want to pursue higher education, who wish to carve a niche for themselves, who are willing to be masters of their own fate is of special importance in a marginalized area whose socio-economic conditions have not been conducive to the needs and voices of women. Women have been victims of double deprivation and systemic exploitation in this underprivileged geo-political location and it is through the light of education that Rani Indira Debi Government Girls’ College seeks to lead the young women of the area to greater heights and to a better realisation of their own potential.
